The Coalition Underestimated Iraq's Hardest Fighting Unit | Iraq 2003
When the US-led coalition invaded Iraq in March 2003, General Tommy Franks believed the main threats to be the Iraqi Army and Republican Guard units. What he underestimated was the strength of the Fedayeen Saddam, a militia controlled by Saddam Hussein's son Uday. These were hard fighters who continued to fight to the end, and reaked havoc upon the long coalition supply lines from Kuwait to the tip of the spear of the march on Baghdad.

Japan would have surrendered if the fire 🔥 bombs on Tokyo pursued. Even on other cities. Fire bombs had the same effect without ruining the land( Radiation) . Russia was also attacking Japan . Would have had Japan Surrender. I guess there are many different ways of looking at this.

In Normany, he gave them a bigger defeat than at Stalingrad, and at the Rhine, he left zero room for the Germans to opppse his advance. Even at Arnhem, how did the Germans profit by their victory over First Airborne? The were were not able to take back the advances made to Nigmegen, and they were left with another 50 miles front to defend.

Americans largely learn about wars and history from movie dramas instead of documentaries and history books. They loved for example Patton and Bridge Too Far as great movies but then made the assumption that those were as good as documentaries. As a result they were made to believe that it was Patton who defeated the Germans and by extension Rommel in Africa (he didn't) and that Operation Market Garden was a 'failure.' That last narrative is uniquely American as Market Garden was still the deepest single penetration into German territory the Western Allies ever achieved during the war despite uncharacteristically high casualties. Let's not even get into mythical excusing of MacArthur's behavior during the war. Americans basically get jealous when any credit for victory is given to anyone but themselves. Did Montgomery overstate his own achievements? Yes, but at least he apologized for them. The same thing cannot be said about the over-promotions of Patton and MacArthur.

  • @pop5678eye

Americans get jealous when competent generals from other nations are acknowledged. They even plagiarize famous quotes. Over and over I see two quotes that Americans like to attribute to Omar Bradley or some other American general from WW2 or sometimes the Civil War: 'No war plan survives contact with the enemy.' This was actually first uttered by the German general Moltke (the elder) in the 19th century. His exact phrasing was different too. 'Amateurs talk tactics. Professionals talk logistics.' Also not American and also wrong century. This was a quote Napoleon was recorded to have said.

First of all pearl harbor was an usa post and at war you expect to get hit at military sites. You just cant say you hit my military post so i gotta hit your city and kill civilians within city. You can do that but saying it was necessary is crazy. Japan at war most of the time , look at japan history even they battle with themselves long time. Dropping nuke to stop others wars is excuse to have natural defense like ocean and isolated continent then bored and attack others and loot their resources like during ww2 usa join very late and germany was already weakened then usa grab nazi scientist and their experiments. In the earth there are always never ending wars then we ahould nuke entire earth to end wars?

The Arabs who fled Israel prior to and after the First war were not expelled by Israel, but were acting on the demands of the Arab nations to clear Israel of Arabs so that they could conduct a genicidal war against the Jews. Your commentary was completely refuted when you said at1:50 that Britain was given administration of quote "Palestine" yet you next vision was of the actual document which on the front clearly shows "Trans-Jordan". Here in lies the reason fools in the west support Hamas.. They believe Palestine actually existed as a nation prior to 1948 . This lie is the blue touch paper for ll past and current conflicts. Stop referring to Palestine which as a country has never existed ; thee Romans changed the name of Judea to Palestrina and governed the area as part of a larger province. Constant reference to Palestine skews the truth. Today's Palestinians have only existed since the 1970s when it pleased the Arab nations to call the people of Gaza "refugees". They were not refugees, they were Arab Israelis, they have never been refugees, except possibly from Hamas and Egyptian hgemony.. They have always been accepted as Israelis

Once again I have to point out that the Canadians spent most of WW2 in garrison duty in the UK or Canada itself and did not see regular active engagement against the Germans until the invasion of Italy. Complaining that the Canadians were treated badly because had to do some tough fighting in the last two years of the war after having been kept out of the fighting for the first four seems rather petty.

billfarley9167 Battle of the Scheldt. Involved British, Canadian, and Polish troops. Dieppe. Montgomery was tasked with planning JUBILEE, but was sent to North Africa before the operation went ahead. Before his departure, Montgomery recommended that JUBILEE be cancelled. The Canadian government, and Canadian military leaders in Britain had lobbied hard for Canadian troops to be given the lead role in that operation - for the reasons that 11nytram11 has noted. Ortona. Was originally assaulted by New Zealand troops, with Canadian troops being brought into the fighting to take over from the British 78th Infantry Division which various sources describe as being 'exhausted'. It is hard see Canadian involvement in the battles of the Scheldt, Dieppe and Ortona having the sinister aspect that you have attempted to state here.

For a nation with an honour code so ingrained, the most remarkable thing was the inability to tell the truth-dishonesty is dishonourable. This went far beyond wartime security issues. Thus there was a glaring paradox-honour with dishonour side by side. Oil and water, IJN vs Navy. Military against Civil. Dissembly to the Emperor. Recipe for unquestioning, discord, arrogance, inability to face the truth. Wickedness dressed as Valour. That was to be the fate of the world before USA got its act together and worked with allies, strategy (Germany first), codebreaking and designs for weapons from allies joined to US production genius; and came courtesy of a mostly informed population with its angry response to aggression. Biggest mistake (as recruiting sergeant and probably nurturing of the unbelievable spirit of the WW2 cohort) was the failure to declare war before attacking Pearl. Dishonour was added to deceit from the beginning.

video seemed rather biased. he was a good commander in my opinion but the narrator seemed to want to blame everyone else. the "I never intended to capture caen." is usually the kind of line I from prideful egotistical people refusing to admit they fail. monty went behind Bradley's back and bradley was equally at fault and the narrator calls bradley a prima donna to back up this claim. no evidence just an attack on character. monty got command of the northern front and could not advance quickly because of weather. not mentioning that patton pulled out of one engagement raced up to the breakthrough and re engaged in a totally different direction. the problem with monty's press conference was not that he gave it its that he had to try and take credit and give none to the other commanders and their men who fought yet monty's "reflection" did not sus this out. this part kind of speaks towards monty's on view and mindset I think. a small window into the successful grandstanding prima donna himself. to many americans he came across as seeing their commanders and there for soldiers as inferior which by its self will breed dislike.

Because Montgomery was a tit bag who whined to Eisenhower every chance he got and wanted to act like he was still in charge after America took over the European front and if he weren't such a tit bag, Patton would have rolled right into Berlin BEFORE the reds and we wouldn't have had a Berlin crisis later in history.

Quote "General Eisenhower's armies were facing resistance that varied from being almost nonexistent to fanatical as they advanced toward Berlin, which was 200 km (120 mi) from their positions in early April 1945. British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill urged Eisenhower to continue the advance toward Berlin by the 21st Army Group, under the command of Field Marshal Montgomery, with the intention of capturing the city. *Even General George S. Patton agreed with Churchill that he should order the attack on the city since Montgomery's troops could reach Berlin within three days* " So it looks like Patton agreed that Monty in the North was in the best position to strike into Germany.
